Cruise ship rescue still ongoing – Passengers say life boats were stuck

Rescue efforts for the Costa Concordia was suspended this morning when rescue teams slipped as the ship sank deeper into the sea just off the coast of Italy.

Fourteen people have not been accounted for, while six people had been confirmed dead. There are still many feared to be missing or dead. More videos of the chaos inside the boat surfaced on the internet. Screaming could be heard in the chaos as one video showed how the ship tilting on one side prompting passengers to lose balance. Many survivors have returned to their home country relaying to reporters and loved ones their horrific experience. Survivors stated that lifeboats got stuck which slowed the evacuation and created confusion.

Questions still remain as to what happened. The ship’s captain had been detained under suspicion of manslaughter. Costa Cruises owners will provide their full support to the captain. They admitted that the tragedy could be due to human error and that strict procedures were not followed by the crew.
