Move over Fat-kinis the face-kini is the new trend!
This odd fashion trend emerged in Northeastern China’s Shandong province.
While Westerners love to get that bronze tanned look many Chinese women value a fair skin complexion.
Traditionally bronze skin meant that the person was part of the working class who worked outdoors. Pale skin meant that the person was of higher status and does not work outdoors.
The face mask covers the full head and has holes for the eyes, nose and mouth.
The mask is typically worn with a body suit, but some women only wear it on their heads.
Not only is it a good protection from UV rays, it also protects against jellyfish and insects.
