A dog owner has triggered controversy after he tattooed his two dogs.
Ernesto Rodriguez had his two pit bulls, Duke and Duchess, tattooed while their ears were being clipped.
Rodriguez, an Army veteran and tattoo artist from Stokes County, N.C. claims the tattoo was for identification purposes.
A photo of the tattoo was allegedly posted on Rodriguez’ Facebook page for Planet Ink Tattoos, but later deleted it. However, someone was able to capture a screenshot of one of his updates that read:
“Animal control came looked at my beautiful dog and left…wow…what a waste of tax payers money… so I’m still gonna tattoo my dogs whenever I feel like it… good try haters thanks for all the advertisement.”
His Facebook post ignited outrage from people. Many of whom are accusing Rodriguez of animal abuse.
Animal activist, Caleb Scott, told WGHP that one of Rodriguez’ posts said “bored and tattooing.” and that now Rodriguez is “backpedalling” by saying that it was for identification of his dog.
The Stokes County Health Department and Animal Control are currently investigating Rodriguez. No charges had been filed yet. However, the health department has issued a cease and desist order on Rodriguez to stop tattooing in his home without a proper permit.
Do you think tattooing dogs is considered cruelty to animals?
