Miss USA 2012 Winner Is Olivia Culpo (VIDEO + PHOTOS)

Miss Rhode Island, Olivia Culpo at 20 years old , was crowned the winner of the Miss USA 2012 pageant.

The event was held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and is in its 61st year.

Culpo received a loud applause from the audience during the question and answer portion. Judge Rob Kardashian asked her about what she thought about transgender contestants.

Kardashian asked, “Would it be fair if a transgender woman won the Miss USA title?”

Culpo responded, “I do think it would be fair….” She added that she would be in favor of this because “there are so many people who have a need to change for a happier life. I do accept that because I believe it’s a free country.”

Culpo is a sophomore at Boston University and has been on the Dean’s List every semester. Her parents are musicians and she has beenp laying the cello since elementary school.

She will be representing the U.S.A. in the Miss Universe pageant later this year.
