Rodney King Dies at 47

Rodney King was found dead June 17, 2012. He was 47.

His fiance, Cynthia Kelly, found him in the pool in their home.

She told police that she heard King outside of the house and then a splash. She went outside and found him at the bottom of the pool.

King is well known for the Los Angeles riots over 20 years ago. A videotape of him being beaten by four police officers in March 1991 shocked America. It led to rioting in Los Angeles when the police officers were acquitted of the beating him. He became of a celebrity after the events.

The riots left 55 people dead.

Rialto police officers tried to perform CPR after removing him from the pool. The Rialto Fire Department paramedics took King to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, there was no evidence of foul play at the scene. King had issues with alcoholism
