Is the Samsung Galaxy S4 the iPhone killer?
The Samsung Galaxy S4 features never-before-seen technology.
The technology giant introduced the Galaxy S4 with cool new features including a few triggered with just a wave of the hand.
It’s been called a ‘major milestone’ by Samsung and experts predict the S4 could possibly outsell the iPhone.
“I believe the Samsung Galaxy S4 could be an important milestone for the Korean company, as it could be the first smartphone to outsell an iPhone,’ said Francisco Jeronimo, an analyst with IDC.”
“The Samsung Galaxy S4 can be a game changer for Samsung, and I believe for the first time that this device has the potential to outsell the next generation of iPhone – assuming that Apple will incrementally improve the next version of the iPhone.”
The phone’s launch at New York’s Radio City Music Hall featured a live orchestra, a master of ceremonies and even a tap dance number.
The Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch 1080p screen with a body slightly smaller than the S III’s. According to Samsung, the S4 will go on sale globally between April and June this year.
The phone is 69mm wide, 7.9mm, weights 130 grams and uses polycarbonate casing.
New features include different options for navigation. The phone can sense someone looking at the screen where the user can tilt it forward or backwards to scroll up and down a Web page. That falls short of what the New York Times reported that the phone can sense and track the readers’ eyes. But it can sense when it has gotten someone’s attention.
When a video is left playing and the person looks away from the device, the phone will automatically pause the stream. It will restart once the user’s eyes come back to the screen.
The voice recognition feature gives a user capability to dictate, reply, forward and save messages using only verbal commands. This could help avoid texting while driving.
The voice recognition also has a translation feature, which can understand nine languages.
It also has a feature that takes care of the messy fingerprints. The screen will now sense fingers hovering just above the screen and the application will react to it.
The camera function had undergone major changes as well. Both the front and back camera can be simultaneously used allowing users to capture an image and insert a picture of themselves capturing the scene in front of them.
Aside from the S4′s larger screen and upgraded processor, the smartphone also features a battery 20% larger than the SIII. It also comes with a built-in infra-red diode that can be used as a universal remote to control your entertainment centre.
