Pfc. Patrick Edward Myers, 27, was charged on Tuesday with manslaughter.
Both suspect and victim were soldiers at the Fort Hood base in Texas.
Pfc. Isaac Lawrence Young, 22, the suspect, and another soldier were drinking and watching football on Sunday night.
According to Killeen police, Young had the hiccups. The suspect took out his gun to scare him in order to stop the hiccups. The gun went off and shot Young in the face.
Police responded to the call after 10 p.m. Sunday. They found a man shot in the face and the other two men in the residence.
Police said that Myers took out the handgun and “while handling it in an unsafe manner, discharged the handgun striking the victim in the face.”
Young died on the way to Skylark Field where he was to be airlifted to a hospital.
