FEMEN: International Topless Jihad Day. Topless Protest At Paris Mosque (VIDEOS + PHOTOS)

April 5, 20130 Comments

Topless FEMEN protestors stage demonstrations around mosques and Tunisian embassies across Europe in support of FEMEN activist Amina Tyler.

Accoring to AFP FEMEN member, Alexandra Shevchenko was quoted as saying, “We’re free, we’re naked, it’s our right, it’s our body, it’s our rules, and nobody can use religion, and some other holy things, to abuse women, to oppress them.”

“And we’ll fight against them. And our boobs will be stronger than their stones,” she said.

Amina Tyler, a Tunisian student, posted a topless photo of herself that sparked controversy. And it wasn’t just a topless photo of herself on Facebook, she wrote slogans on her body that read: “Fuck Your Morals” and “My Body Belongs To Me, And Is Not The Source Of Anyone’s Honour.”

Islamist hackers responded to Tyler’s defying act by hacking into FEMEN’s Tunisian Facebook Page where they replaced topless photos with quotes from the Quran. One Islamic preacher said that Tyler could be stoned for her defiance.

FEMEN, in support of Tyler, turned April 4 as the “International Topless Jihad Day” and organized protests near mosques and embassies across Europe.

On their Facebook page, the group wrote: “This day will mark the beginning of a new, genuine Arab Spring, after which true freedom, freedom without mullahs and caliphs, will come to Tunisia! Long live the topless jihad against infidels! Our tits are deadlier than your stones!”

Around two dozen activists showed up in Paris where they tried to reach the Tunisian embassy, but they were arrested by police.

Five activists also showed up near an Islamic cultural center in Brussels, Belgium. In Milan, women protested outside the Tunisian consulate. They carried signs that read “Free Amina” and “Bare Breasts Against Islam.”

As for Tyler, activists and journalists are concerned about her well-being. Although her lawyer said she was doing fine, some reports suggest that she is being held by her parents in seclusion.

Journalist Caroline Fourest wrote in a blog for HuffPost France that no one has heard from Tyler.

“No, it’s not fine. Amina is with her family but that’s not ‘good news,’ as some newspaper earlier wrote,” Fourest wrote.

“No one close to her, none of her friends or people in her support network have seen her or heard that she was free, free to move and speak.”

They were immediately dragged away by police from the polling station as others continued to line up to vote at the school.

Berlusconi, who faces charges of sleeping with an underage prostitute, is attempting to make a come back in politics. But his efforts have been met with criticism by many Italians. They believe that his scandal-laden life may overshadow Italy’s economic issues.

A group of topless women activists stormed Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral on Tuesday to celebrate Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation.

The women, who are affiliated with the radical feminist group FEMEN, flashed their breasts and banged the bells in the cathedral.

Each woman had a slogan drawn on their torsos. Some of the slogans read “Bye Bye Benedict” and “No more homophobe”.

The pope’s announcement of his resignation shocked the Catholic community. But FEMEN seems to be quite happy to hear the news.

The “French Femen sextremists” wrote on their website that the protestors had a “funeral march” for the pope.

One photo was captioned:

“FEMEN France noted the final hour of the homophobic Pope. FEMEN is congratulating the whole progressive world with the resignation of fascist Benedict XVI from the place of the head of the Catholic mafia. It’s symbolic that today is the day of the voting of law of same-sex marriage in France. The ex-Pope was a fierce opponent of gay marriages. FEMEN applaud the complete capitulation of the middle age homophobia! Pope go to the devil! Viva common sense! Viva freedom!”

The topless women entered the cathedral where they banged on the bronze bells that were made for Notre Dame’s 850th anniversary. The staff eventually turned the lights off and alerted security. The women were then dragged out by security.
