Will & Kate are set to make a criminal complaint over topless photos of the princess.
The royal couple will ask a Paris court judge to pursue the photographer responsible for the photos.
France’s Closer magazine and the photographer could face jail time. The Duke and Duchess are pushing for the “stiffest punishment possible” on the magazine.
They will also file a criminal complaint against the photographer who the royals believe breached their privacy by using long-range lens to take photos of the Duchess.
Paris barrister Aurelian Hammelle will represent the couple at the city’s Tribunal de Grande Instance de Nanterre.
A court could impose a one-year prison sentence for magazine’s editor and the photographer. There will also be an application for a fine, an apology, and an order to stop distribution of the photos.
A Palace spokeswoman said yesterday: “We can confirm that a criminal complaint is to be made to the French Prosecution Department tomorrow.”
“The complaint concerns the taking of photographs of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge whilst on holiday and the publication of those photographs in breach of their privacy.”
French Closer defended the photos published last night.
The magazine posted on their website saying: “The photos we selected are by no means degrading. They show a young couple on vacation, beautiful, love, modern in their normal life.”
Laurence PIeau, editor for Closer magazine, said they will fight the legal action against them. He claims that the couple were easily visible from a public road and that the photos were not degrading.
Meanwhile Italian Magazine, Chi, added a 26-page spread of Kate sunbathing. An Irish Daily Star also printed pictures of the Duchess.
