The attack on the children happened in the village of Chengping in Henan, a province between Beijing and Shanghai.
The 36-year-old man named Min Yingjun burst into the home of an 85-year-old woman and then stabbed her just before children came in at 8 a.m.
The Chinese government’s Xinhua News Agency reported that Yingjun may be “mentally ill.”
Fortunately, none of the children died. However, many of the children lost fingers and had their ears cut off.
There had been similar attacks in China recently. Most of the attacks have been carried out by mentally ill men who were involved in personal disputes or unable to adjust to the rapid pace of social change in China. That and the inadequate Chinese medical system to treat psychiatric illness have been the issue of the recent attacks.
