A 300 ft spiral staircase has been built on the side of the Taihang Mountains in Linzhou in China.
The tourist board in Linzhou hopes to give tourists the thrill of “mountain climbing’ ‘without the danger.’
One tourist official said: ‘Here the wind blows and batters them, the birds fly past them, the stairs creak. It is a lot more authentic than an elevator.’
For health and safety reasons, the maximum age for admission is 60 and climbers have to sign a waiver stating that they do not have a heart or lung problem.
The Taihang Mountain range stretches for about 250 miles. Many of its mountain peaks range from 5,000 to 6,000 feet. The highest is the Xiao Wutaishan which reaches 9,455 feet.
