After a frenzied manhunt for Christopher Dorner, Los Angeles authorities reported a charred body had found inside a burned mountain cabin. But investigators are unsure if the human remains were Dorner’s.
It may take days before they can identify if the body found is in fact Dorner’s, the former LAPD officer suspected in four killings.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said is it likely that the body is Dorner’s.
Villaraigosa told CNN that they believe it is the body of Christopher Dorner, but until they are certain then the police officers targeted by Dorner will continue to be protected.
California Fish and Wildlife wardens spotted Dorner driving near Big Bear Lake on Tuesday. They chased him in their vehicles and a gun battle ensued.
During the gun fight with the wardens, Dorner crashed his car and ran. He carjacked a pickup truck who was owned by Rick Heltebrake, a camp ranger.
“Here comes this guy with a big gun, and I knew who it was right away,” he told KTLA. “He just came out of the snow at me with his gun at my head. He said, ‘I don’t want to hurt you. Just get out of the car and start walking.’ ”
Dorner let Heltebrake walk away unharmed.
Dorner then took refuge in a cabin where San Bernardino County deputies became involved in a shootout. One deputy was killed and another one wounded during the gun fight.
The cabin caught fire when officers threw smoke devices inside. The fire burned for hours before dying down to allow police to investigate.
Was there a conspiracy behind the standoff between police and Christopher Dorner?
Audio captured by a local news channel from the siege on Christopher Dorner reveal a plan by police to burn down the cabin.
One officer can be heard saying, “fucking burn this motherfucker.”
This audio seems to have been before the siege. But a separate police audio reveals a deliberate plan to burn the cabin down where Dorner was trapped in.

Who was Christopher Dorner? Why did he go on a killing spree?
According to a manifesto that authorities claim Christopher Dorner published, Dorner launched a violent rampage against members of the LAPD in order to clear his name.
The 33-year-old ex-cop said his vendetta was the racism and the injustice he encountered within the LAPD.
“I know I will be vilified by the LAPD and the media. Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name … The question is, what would you do to clear your name?” Dorner asked.
Dorner claims he witnessed an officer kicking a suspect several times in the chest and face. He filed a report on the incident, but claimed nothing was done. Ten months later he was fired by the department because he lied about the report.
“It is clear as day that the department retaliated toward me” for breaking the “Blue Line” of silence,” Dorner wrote.
Dorner said losing job turned his life upside down. He said the LAPD robbed him of the carer he considered his “calling in life.”
“I lost my position as a Commanding Officer of a Naval Security Forces reserve unit at NAS Fallon because of the LAPD. I’ve lost a relationship with my mother and sister because of the LAPD. I’ve lost a relationship with close friends because of the LAPD. In essence, I’ve lost everything because the LAPD took my name and new (sic) I was INNOCENT!!!”
Dorner vowed to launch a killing spree against the LAPD, saying he would only stop when the department publicly stated his innocence.
“I’ll be waiting for a PUBLIC response at a press conference. When the truth comes out, the killing stops,” Dorner wrote.
During Dorner’s killing rampage, four people including two officers were killed. There were several that were shot, but not killed.
Do you think there’s a conspiracy behind Dorner’s firing and his possible death?
