School officials at Lexington Catholic High School in Lexington, Kentucky told Hope Decker, 18, and Tiffany Wright, 16, that they could not attend the event. Their relationship violated the Catholic church’s position on homosexuality according to Herald-Leader.
Steve Angelucci, high school president told the Herald-Leader in an email.
“As a Catholic high school, we uphold every teaching of the Catholic Church. The policies and procedures of our school reflect those teachings.”
Decker says there was more to it than school rules.
“What I experienced in the Dean’s Office was blatant homophobia.”
The young couple were upset at first, but decided to do something about it.
They gathered their friends in the school’s parking lot and held their own prom there. The music was provided by car stereos.
