Rape Pregnancy The Same As Pregnancy Out Of Wedlock?

Rep. Tom Smith compares a pregnancy from rape to having a baby out of wedlock.

When asked by a reporter about his views on abortion especially for rape victims, he says he believes abortion should be banned without exceptions including rape.

The reporter then followed the question with how Smith would handle a daughter or granddaughter getting pregnant from a rape.

His response was he “lived something similar to that.”

“She chose life, and I commend her for that,” he said.

Then he continues, “Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t rape.” When the reporter asked him to clarify what kind of situation was similar to rape, Smith said, “Having a baby out of wedlock.”

“Put yourself in a father’s position. Yes, it is similar.”

Smith recently said that he does not agree with Rep. Todd Akin’s remarks about ‘legitimate rape.’ However, both their remarks seems to go along the same lines.
